- If you are a parent with a Youth ages 11-13, PLEASE simply create an account for the ADULT but DO NOT REGISTER FOR A SHIFT. The youth will not be able to have their own account until they are 14. Many volunteers are getting tripped up by the new portal and it's easier if I register for you than to try and fix it. PLEASE email your info to volunteer@sowa.org and I WILL REGISTER FOR YOU - Include names, ages of any minors, cell phone, city of residence and date/event/role/shift info.
- If you are NEW and are a duo with the same email or a small group/family wishing to volunteer together, you may find it easier for us to register for you. Please have one adult serve as the Group Lead and create a profile but do not register for the actual shift. Then email volunteer@sowa.org with the information listed in the first bullet point.
- If you already have a profile and are a duo, small group/family, again, I'm happy to register everyone together. See instructions in the first bullet point. It really is easier at this point to register for you than to go back into your account and fix it so that everyone is listed.
- Register only for the shift(s) that you are committed to doing. Do NOT register for every shift that you are WILLING to do. We appreciate your flexibility and willingness to do whatever is needed but by selecting more than one role per shift, you're taking away the opportunity to register from others while we reach out to you individually to sort things out.
- If you are available to volunteer ALL DAY but only the AM and PM shifts are listed and available, please register for both shifts and I'll fix it on the backend.
If you have volunteered with us since Fall 2024, welcome back! Please click on https://portals.specialolympics.org to log-in and register for your preferred shift(s).
Registering is a two-step process: 1) Create your profile 2) THEN register for your desired volunteer shift.
STEP 1: Visit https://portals.specialolympics.org.
- Click “Create an account” which will walk you through profile creation.
- Note: Your email activation code will be sent from “Microsoft on behalf of Special Olympics B2C Production.” Please be sure to check your spam folder as well. If you don't receive the code after a few minutes, your email's security settings may be set too high. See if you can add “Microsoft on behalf of Special Olympics B2C Production” as a Safe Sender and see if that helps.
STEP 2: When on your personal “Volunteer Zone” landing page, select “Sign up for an Event”
- If there are several events listed, it may be easier if you go to the drop-down Sort By feature and Sort by Date.
Do you have a large group (10+ persons)? Email volunteer@sowa.org to help find the perfect fit for your group - I will even register for you!
** After you've registered here (or I have registered for you), you'll receive an auto-generated confirmation email. Mark your calendars to save the date. As we get closer to the event, you'll receive additional confirmation emails from volunteer@sowa.org. These are usually sent the Monday and Wednesday prior to a weekend event.
Again, if you have ANY difficulties registering, or have ANY questions about volunteering or what the best role for you might be, please email me at volunteer@sowa.org. Thank you and I hope to see you at an event soon!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please DO NOT sign up to volunteer at any in-person events if you are sick or believe that you have any symptoms of COVID-19. We would never want to put our members at risk in any way, and there are plenty of virtual or at-home ways to earn hours this semester. If you choose to volunteer in-person, make sure you follow all state and county coronavirus guidelines and stay safe when volunteering!
Additionally, please do NOT skip class to attend events. If an event takes place during school hours, only volunteer if you're in Running Start/have an alternative schedule that doesn't cause you to skip class!
