Mission Statement

Pragat Foundation is a pioneering youth-led nonprofit committed to advancing social justice, particularly historical justice. Focused on aiding the 90% of the world that was once colonized, they use our international volunteer network to create educational resources through multilingual translation and research to promote decolonization and historical empowerment. Their education covers crucial topics like financial literacy, sustainable farming, and pre-colonial history, empowering communities to thrive and heal from past injustices.

Description

Founded last year, Pragat Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering communities through effective translation. They provide translation services and rely on volunteers of all ages who can write in languages other than English. Volunteers virtually earn community service hours for their contributions, which can enhance their resumes and college applications. Their main program involves translation assignments, where volunteers receive 1 hour of service for every 200 words translated. They source information from credible organizations like the World Bank and official government documents. By partnering with local nonprofits, they distribute translated materials to underserved communities globally, focusing on topics like personal finance and economic history to help improve livelihoods and inspire community pride. Their translated content is shared through local newspapers and our website, organized by language folders. They welcome volunteers from all ages, backgrounds and locations to join them in making a difference!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please DO NOT sign up to volunteer at any in-person events if you are sick or believe that you have any symptoms of COVID-19. We would never want to put our members at risk in any way, and there are plenty of virtual or at-home ways to earn hours this semester. If you choose to volunteer in-person, make sure you follow all state and county coronavirus guidelines and stay safe when volunteering!

Additionally, please do NOT skip class to attend events. If an event takes place during school hours, only volunteer if you're in Running Start/have an alternative schedule that doesn't cause you to skip class!
