Food Bank Farm

Description

Event organizer:

Jim Eichner 425-223-7249

In April, we rebuild and repair our greenhouses. We also start and transplant thousands of seedlings to be ready for growing in April and May. It's our version of Build Back Better, with "caterpillar tunnels" that are more resilient to our flood-prone river valley. We'd love your help.

The historic flood of December, 2025 covered our greenhouses and equipment with 10 feet of swiftly flowing water. The current carried tons of debris that destroyed several greenhouses and scattered thousands of items.

Food Bank Farm grew 400,000 pounds of fresh nutritious produce in 2025, double our average, to feed the hungry in Western WA. Anyone can help. We sign lots of service hour forms for students. Dress for the weather. Wear gloves. We provide all tools.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please DO NOT sign up to volunteer at any in-person events if you are sick or believe that you have any symptoms of COVID-19. We would never want to put our members at risk in any way, and there are plenty of virtual or at-home ways to earn hours this semester. If you choose to volunteer in-person, make sure you follow all state and county coronavirus guidelines and stay safe when volunteering!

Additionally, please do NOT skip class to attend events. If an event takes place during school hours, only volunteer if you're in Running Start/have an alternative schedule that doesn't cause you to skip class!
