Trail Restoration Project with Eagle Scout Candidate

Shifts: 

February 27: 3 PM to 6 PM 

February 28: 10 AM to 3 PM

One of our own JHS seniors is a Life Scout from Toop 91 BSA and is currently working toward earning the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. As part of this process, he is coordinating & leading a community service project: a trail restoration project to improve and preserve a local trail. 

Goals: 

• Install mile markers along the trail 

• Clear sidewalk and tree debris 

• Install a 3D monument highlighting the trail and its significance 

Volunteers will assist with trail cleanup, marker installation, and other restoration tasks. Some tools involved in the project include screwdrivers, hammers, and pressure washers. 

To ensure safety: 

• 5-10 minute safety briefing will be conducted at the beginning of both workdays 

• Skilled adults will provide on-site training and supervision before any tool use 

• An adult supervisor will be present at each worksite 

• If requested, NHS volunteers can be restricted from using certain tools and those tasks will be reassigned to other qualified volunteers 

• Linked Safety Waiver must be completed prior to the event
