Event Type:

Green Shoreline Partnership

Description

Join your neighbors and make new friends while expanding and protecting Hamlin Park’s beautiful urban forest. We are restoring the forest by removing invasive species, improving the health of the soil, and planting native trees, shrubs and ground cover. Forests mitigate climate change, absorb carbon from the atmosphere, reduce pollution, and provide habitat for wildlife. Urban forests also provide cool, shady spaces for recreation and improve mental health. Improve your wildlife identification skills while learning urban forestry and ecological restoration best practices. Students can earn community service hours while having fun outdoors. We have gloves and tools. Come dressed for the weather and ready to work outside. Please wear closed-toe shoes, a long sleeved shirt and long pants. Bring water and a snack. IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please DO NOT sign up to volunteer at any in-person events if you are sick or believe that you have any symptoms of COVID-19. We would never want to put our members at risk in any way, and there are plenty of virtual or at-home ways to earn hours this semester. If you choose to volunteer in-person, make sure you follow all state and county coronavirus guidelines and stay safe when volunteering!

Additionally, please do NOT skip class to attend events. If an event takes place during school hours, only volunteer if you're in Running Start/have an alternative schedule that doesn't cause you to skip class!
